NYCA Held Second Press Briefing Against September Trip of Iran's President to New York

NEW YORK, Sept. 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- On Friday, Sept. 9, the New York Committee against Ahmadinejad (NYCA) held its second press briefing to elaborate on progress of its campaign against the presence of
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the
United Nations Next week. Friday marked the 23rd day of the NYCA's campaign.

Rabbi Daniel M. Zucker from the Long Island University welcomed "Iranians and other friends who have come to New York to support freedom and democracy and to vocally protest the presence of the arch-terrorist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in our city and country"

Stating that "We, the people of New York and the United States, share a special bond with the Iranian people: we are both the victims of terrorism," Rabbi Zucker stressed that "It's well past time to change this regime in favor of one run by the vast majority of Iranians that desire a secular democratic government in their homeland, one that embraces the concept of peaceful co- operation with the community of nations."

Shirin Nariman a representative of Iranian-Americans in Virginia expressed the NYCA's deepest sympathy for the victims of hurricane Katrina. She then reported that since the mid-August launching of NYCA's campaign, hundreds of Iranians and Americans from New York and throughout the United States have joined NYCA. She added that many New Yorkers have volunteered for NYCA's daily outreach campaign now in its 23rd day.

"I am proud to say that our rally against Ahmadinejad's presence in UN scheduled for September 14 will represent Iranians from nearly 40 states in America. Members of U.S. Congress and the European parliament have expressed their support and some of whom will be joining us in the rally," Nariman told the briefing. She concluded her remarks by saying that "Our rally, is not just a show of unity against terrorism, it is indeed a display of solidarity for peace and democracy."

The next speaker Hedayat Mostowfi, informed reporters at the briefing and presented documents that "so far more than 50 personalities, religious leaders from New York and close to 5000 New Yorkers have declared their support for NYCA's campaign."

He said with Ahmadinejad in the office, there is no basis to maintain the policy of appeasement towards Iran and that it was time to "stand with the Iranian people who desire removing this regime from power." To this end, Mostowfi said, "Tehran's nuclear case must be referred to the UN Security Council in the framework of a firm policy devoid of any obstacles for the Iranian Resistance."

He stressed that Ahmadinejad and his administration must be publicly denounced for their directly responsibility in crimes against humanity and terrorism. Mostowfi said a viable approach would logically support the policy option introduced by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi last December which provides an indigenous solution for a democratic change in Iran which does not require a foreign war.

Mr. Reza Kafi, a representative of the Iranian-American community of Tennessee, was the last speaker who said "with Ahmadinejad as president and now that Tehran has sped up its drive for nuclear weapons, we must all come together to defeat Iranian regime's terrorist agenda. The secret to our success is the unity among all victims of terrorism."
