To: Western political leaders
Tiener homojongens geexecuteerd in Iran (English version below)

Afgelopen week werden twee homojongeneren in Iran geëxecuteerd.

Wij roepen:
-Onze regeringen op om de executies van de twee homojongeren scherp te veroordelen;
-Onze regeringen op om asielzoekers met als gegeven grond homoseksualiteit, niet terug te sturen naar Iran
-Onze regeringen op om politieke en economische sancties aan Iran op te leggen;
-Europa op om de onderhandelingen over een associatief verdrag met Iran op te schorten.

Laat je stem horen en sluit je aan met je proteststem. Samen maken we een verschil en roepen we onze regeringen op tot actie!

Gay teenagers executed in Iran

This week two gay teenagers were executed in Iran. Their only 'crime' was their sexual orientation.
After more than a year of imprisonment, where they had already been punished with 226 lashes, both guys
were hanged publicly on July 19th 2005. Mahmoud Asgari (16) and Ayaz Marhoni (1Cool are the next victims in Iran
in long series of execution upon basis of homosexual behaviour.

These barbarian and medieval events have to stop immediately.

Gay & Lesbian organisations, Human Rights organisations, Nobel Peace laureate Shirin Ebadi, and even the Oposition in Iran are sharply judging the executions of these teenagers.

We call upon:
-Our governments to sharply judge the execution of these gay teenagers;
-Our governments to not send back to Iran asylum-seekers upon basis of their homosexuality;
-Our goverments to reprimand Iran with economical and political sanctions;
-Europe to suspend the negations on a associative treaty with Iran.

Let your voice be heard! Together we hope to make an effort to call upon our governments, asking them to make a strong signal towards the Iranian government.

Sincerely,

Five City Protest Against Iran Executions
10 August 2005
http://www.rainbownetwork.com/News/detail.asp?iData=24000&iCat=29&iChannel=2&nChannel=News

Five cities in the US and Europe will stage protests tomorrow against the execution of two teenage boys in Iran on charges involving homosexual acts.

Dublin, San Francisco, London, Paris and Montpelier will join forces on Thursday 11 August 2005 to oppose Iran’s use of the death penalty and its persecution of lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

The protest will take place on Thursday 11 August, from 1pm to 2pm, outside the Iranian Embassy and a petition has also been set up to condemn the killings.

Mahmoud Asgari, 16, and Ayaz Marhoni, 18, were publicly hanged on 19 July in the city of Mashhad on charges of raping younger boys, an allegation gay rights groups claim were trumped-up in an attempt to undermine public sympathy for the teenagers.

Iran enforces Islamic Sharia law, which dictates the death penalty for gay sex.

Both men admitted to having gay sex but claimed in their defence that most young boys had sex with each other and that they were not aware that homosexuality was punishable by death.

Ruhollah Rezazadeh, the lawyer for the youngest boy, appealed to the court that he was too young to be executed and that the court should take into account his tender age.

However, the Supreme Court in Tehran rejected the argument and ordered him to be hanged.

Three other young gay Iranians are being hunted by the police, but they have gone into hiding and cannot be found. If caught, they will also face execution.

Outrage! say that since 1979 the Iranian government has executed an estimated 4,000 LGBT people. They are urging people to “email, phone, fax and write your protests” to the Iranian Ambassador.

Petition Condemns Gay Executions

A petition has been set up to condemn last week’s execution of two Iranian teenagers for the ‘crime' of homosexuality.

However, the Supreme Court in Tehran rejected the argument and ordered him to be hanged.

Three other young gay Iranians are being hunted by the police, but they have gone into hiding and cannot be found. If caught, they will also face execution.

An email, that includes a link to the petition, has been circulating around the globe and calls people to sign the form and demand that governments condemn the deaths.

“Human rights groups claim the government of Iran executed more than 4,000 gays and lesbians over the past 25 years. That's more than one person every 3 days.
This must be stopped,” the email says.

“It's easy to be sarcastic and say it isn't going to help. But not doing anything CERTAINLY isn't going to make a difference.”

You can also sign the online petition at www.petitiononline.com/1021ir/petition.html.

Outrage! are also urging people to write to the Iranian Ambassador in protest.

Protests slam Iran over executions
Ben Townley, Gay.com U.K.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/po/20050813/co_po/protestsslamiranoverexecutions

SUMMARY: Demonstrators took to the streets of London to protest Iran's treatment of LGBT people. Similar demonstrations took place in four other cities worldwide.

More than 100 people took to the streets of London on Thursday to protest Iran's treatment of lesbian and gay people.

The protests came after two teenage boys were publicly hanged in Iran last month, with some reports saying their "crime" was homosexuality.

Simultaneous demonstrations were held in San Francisco, Dublin, Paris and Montpelier, France.

"We condemn the execution of two teenage boys in Iran on charges involving homosexual acts," a statement from organizers Outrage! said. "One of them was a minor at the time of his execution; both were minors when they committed their offenses."

The hangings have been the center of controversy, after the Iranian government also accused the boys of raping a younger boy. However, activists say the charges may have been added in a bid to discourage Western attention to the case.

They also say that the use of the death penalty for any crime should be dropped for human rights reasons.

In San Francisco, nearly 50 people demonstrated in the Castro, a predominately gay neighborhood. Gavin Newsom, the city's mayor, also issued a statement condemning Iran's actions.

"I am both outraged and appalled by what can only be described as a most horrific atrocity affecting human lives in Iran," he said. "The hanging of two teenage boys for their alleged sexual orientation is an affront not only to justice but to all of our sense of humanity."

The London protest was also attended by socialist and human rights activists, as well as Iranian reformers.

The demonstration in London took place outside the Iranian Embassy, with activists calling on those who could not attend to contact the ambassador and voice their anger at the executions.
