Senior Duma Official Blasts Threat of U.S. Sanctions on Russian Firms
Created: 27.06.2005 17:00 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 17:00 MSK
MosNews.com http://www.mosnews.com/news/2005/06/27/kosachyovstatement_.shtml
Konstantin Kosachyov, an outspoken Duma official who heads the lower house committee for international affairs, blasted Washington’s plans to take measures to target the U.S. assets of Russian companies doing business with a number of Iranian, North Korean and Syrian companies.
Commenting on the Washington Post report Monday, Kosachyov told Interfax, the sanctions allegedly mulled by the U.S. administrations were unfounded.
The Washington Post reported earlier that the Bush administration was planning new measures targeting the U.S. assets of anyone conducting business with a number of Iranian, North Korean and Syrian companies. The paper quoted U.S. officials as saying the new measures would especially affect Russian and Chinese companies.
“On the face of it, those complaints do not sound very well founded,” Kosachyov said. “Russia should demand that the U.S. partners adduce comprehensive proof in substantiation of their complaints.
”If they fail to offer the data we will once again have to conclude that the U.S. resorts to sanctions, firstly, as an instrument of pressure on disagreeable regimes, and secondly, as an instrument of dishonest competition against Russian companies,“ he said.
He recalled that earlier the United States dropped all its complaints against Russia as regards to Moscow’s cooperation with Iran in Bushehr. Russia is working in close cooperation with the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency, helping to build a nuclear power plant in Bushehr.
”As to Syria, I have no data on its involvement in the development of weapons of mass destruction,“ the Duma official said. _________________ The Sun Is Rising In The West!Soon It Will Shine on All of Iran! |
