Prince Ali-Reza Pahlavi 1966-2011
Alireza Pahlavi, 44, the youngest son of the former Shah of Iran, died Tuesday morning Jan. 4 2011 at his home in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ali-Reza Pahlavi was born on 28 April 1966. He lived in the U.S. where he received a Bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, a Masters of Arts degree from Columbia University, and studied at Harvard University as a Ph.D. student in ancient Iranian studies and philology.
The youngest son of the late shah of Iran was found dead Tuesday of an apparent suicide at his home in Boston, after he had “struggled for years to overcome his sorrow,” his brother said.

Boston police said they found a man dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the city’s South End neighborhood.

Alireza Pahlavi’s sister, princess Leila Pahlavi, died in 2001 at the age of 31 when her body was found in a London hotel. It was noted that she had taken a fatal cocktail of prescription drugs and cocaine. Alireza Pahlavi’s father, Shah of Iran died in July 1980 and is buried in Cairo.

Trita Parsi, the president of the National Iranian American Council, said in a statement that “the Iranian-American community was deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy.

“There are many divisions in the community, but on a day like this, I think we are all united in our sympathy with the Pahlavi family for their tragic and painful loss,” Parsi said.

Pahlavi is survived by his oldest brother, his mother, his sister Farahnaz, and his half-sister Shahnaz.

Arash Kamangir

Arash (Persian: آرش) is a heroic archer-figure of Iranian-Persian oral tradition and folklore.
Arash the archer should not be confused with the Shahnameh's Kai Arash (the Avesta's Kavi Arshan) the second son of Kei Qobád. Although several sources (e.g. al-Biruni) appear to have considered 'Arash' to be the origin of the name 'Arshak' (i.e. Arsaces), the name of the Parthian dynasty derives from a Parthian- or Eastern Iranian equivalent of 'Ardashir', i.e. 'Artaxerxes', specifically Artaxerxes II, who the Arsacids claimed to descend from. (Within the scheme of the mythologically-conflated genealogies of Iranian dynasts, the Arsacids also claimed to descend—via the other Arash—from Kai Kobad).

Statue of Arash in Sadabad Palace in TehranAs is typical for names from oral tradition, there are numerous variations of 'Arash'. In the Avesta the name appears as 'Erekhsha' (Ǝrəxša) "of the swift arrow, having the swiftest arrow among the Iranians" (Yasht 8.6). This Avestan language form continues in Zoroastrian Middle Persian as 'Erash' (Bundahishn, Shahrastanha-i Eran, Zand-i Vahuman Yasht, Mah i Frawardin), from which the anglicized 'Eruch' derives. New Persian and Arabic forms include 'Erash' and 'Irash' in al-Tabari and ibn al-Atir; Aarashshebatir in al-Tabari; 'Arash' in al-Talebi; 'Aarash' in Maqdesi, Balami, Mojmal, Marasi, al-Biruni, and in the Vis o Ramin of Gorgani. Names with a stock epithet representing the Avestan "swift arrow" include al-Tabari's 'Aarashshebatir' and Mojmal's 'Arash-e Shewatir'. A surname form includes 'Arash/Aarash kaman-gir' "Arash, bow-expert."

The basic story of the bowman runs as follows: In a war between the Iranians and the non-Iranians (in post-Sassanid tradition frequently identified with the Turanians) over the "royal glory" khwarrah, the General Afrasiab has surrounded the forces of the righteous Manuchehr, and the two sides agree to make peace. Both reach an agreement that whatever land falls within the range of a bow-shot shall be returned to the Manuchehr and the Iranians, and the rest should then fall to Afraisab and the Aniranians. An angel (in al-Biruni it is 'Esfandaramad', i.e. the Amesha Spenta Ameretat, MP Spendarmad) instructs Manuchehr to construct a special bow and arrow, and Arash is asked to be the archer. Arash then fires the specially-prepared arrow at dawn, which then traveled a great distance (see below) before finally landing and so marking the future border between the Iranians and the Aniranians.

In Talebi and Balami, Arash is destroyed by the shot and disappears. In al-Tabari, he is exalted by the people, is appointed commander of the archers and lives out his life in great honor. The distance the arrow travels varies: in one it is thousand leagues (farsakhs), in another forty days walk. In several, the arrow traveled from dawn to noon, in others from dawn until sunset. A few sources specify a particular date for the event. The Middle Persian Mah i Frawardin notes the 6th day of the 1st month (i.e. Khordad of Frawardin); later sources associate the event with the name-day festivities of Tiregan (13th of Tir) "presumably" provoked by the homonymity with the Yazata Tir or tir "arrow." (Tafażżolī 1987, p. 266)

The location from which Arash fired his arrow varies as well. In the Avesta (which does not mention places in Western Iran), it is 'Airyo.khshaotha', a not-further identified location in the Middle Clime. Islamic-era sources typically place the location of the shot somewhere just south of the Caspian Sea, variously in Tabaristan (Tabari, Talebi, Maqdesi, ibn al-Atir, Marashi); a mountain-top in Ruyan (al-Biruni, Gardizi), Amul fortress (Mojmal), Mount Damavand (Balami) or Sari (Gorgani). The place the arrow landed is variously identified as 'Mount Khvanvant' in the Avesta (likewise an unknown location); a river in Balkh (Tabari, al-Atir); east of Balkh (Talebi); Bactria/Tokharistan (Maqdesi, Gardizi); the banks of the Oxus River (Balami) or Merv (Mojmal). According to al-Biruni, it hit a nut tree between "Fargana" and Tabaristan "in the furthest reaches of [Greater] Khorasan."

The name Arash and Mearic remains of the most popular names among Iranians.

On Jan. 4, just after the New Year, the youngest son of the late shah of Iran, Alireza Pahlavi, was found dead in his Boston apartment, at the age of 44 his head blown off by a double-barrel shotgun – both chambers of which had discharged. Educated in Ivy League universities, and an artistic sort, Prince Alireza was a dashing heir to the Iranian monarchy after his elder brother, Reza Pahlavi, who lives in the Washington, D.C., area with his mother, Empress Farah, and his children.

To many, if not most, of the Iranians who fled Iran after the fall of the shah in the late '70s, and his subsequent death from cancer in exile, the royal family symbolizes a time when the nation held great promise. Iran was rich with oil revenues – and a well-educated population that was free to live life in religious freedom and without fear of the rapes, stonings, torture and executions at the hands of what now is a radical Islamic regime that enforces Shariah law. Prince Alireza epitomized the hope of a great civilization on the verge of throwing off the yoke of the barbaric mullahs who now terrorize their own people and Christians and Jews worldwide.

The news of Alireza's death spread like wildfire, and the Persian diaspora deeply mourned the passing of one of its hoped for future leaders. Years earlier, the prince's sister, Leila Pahlavi, had died in London flat from what was said to be an overdose of barbiturates. The family has paid its price but always soldiered on, knowing what they symbolized to their own people.

Following news of Alireza's death, with lightening speed the Suffolk County district attorney quickly declared it a suicide, claiming that the prince was "depressed." But at the moving and beautiful memorial funeral for Alireza, which I attended with my "adopted" Persian family held in the Washington, D.C., area Sunday, Empress Farah, eloquently and lovingly, giving "her" eulogy for her fallen son, made it known that he was not depressed and indeed had every reason to live. As is true for Jews and Christians, it is a mortal sin for a sane and rational person of Muslim origin – even if not practicing, like Alireza – to take his own life.

While the Pahlavi family had also previously declared the death a suicide, this was to be expected. Having experienced how the United States had sold out the shah under President Jimmy Carter – leaving Iran in the hands of fanatic mullahs bent on killing them – the family has always felt that it is living on thin ice and does not want to cause "trouble" for its reluctant American hosts. It has tried to keep a low profile and, frankly, has always feared that it could be assassinated by agents of the Islamic regime in this country – which are many, particularly in the national Capitol area. At Alireza's funeral, security thus was very tight. As Prince Reza and Empress Farah approached the dais to speak, each was accompanied by four large body guards. Like all attendees, I was questioned and searched before entering the concert hall where the memorial service took place.

Although the autopsy report is apparently being kept under wraps by the district attorney, I have learned that the both barrels of the double-barrel shotgun used to kill Alireza were found discharged. Firearms experts will tell you that it is extremely difficult if not nearly impossible for a person training a shotgun on himself to pull both triggers at the same time, and that usually the first discharge will incapacitate the suicidal person. Moreover, the way that the body was found was peculiar, reminiscent of what many people thought was the murder of Vince Foster years ago, during the Clinton administration. Foster, a deputy White House counsel who was more than "close" at the time to First Lady Hillary Clinton, was found dead, also allegedly at his own hand, in Fort Marcy Park in McLean, Va. – having gone to the barber and then munched on a cheeseburger just hours before – an unlikely scenario for someone contemplating killing himself. The death was never adequately explained and likely covered up by independent counsel Kenneth Starr, the ultimate establishment judicial "yes man" of the era, despite his later role in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. It would not have been good for Starr's hoped-for chances of being nominated and confirmed as a Supreme Court justice to have ruled the death a murder; the controversy surely would have caused pro-Hillary Democrats to block his confirmation. Of course, after the failed Lewinsky debacle, even the Republicans saw Starr as "radioactive," so he never realized his dream.

I am not equating the death of Alireza to Vince Foster, but instead only pointing out that our government has the motive and means to cover up tragedies such as this.

For if Alireza did not commit suicide, and if he was assassinated by the regime, this would be an act of terrorism on American soil – putting President Obama "on the spot" to respond in kind during a period when the mullah in chief is dead set on his policy of appeasing Tehran to convince it not to build nuclear weapons.

Years ago, I encountered a similar situation. You might all remember the case of Lt. Cmdr. Jack Daly, the Navy counterintelligence officer who was attacked with a laser by a Russian spy vessel while hovering in a helicopter over Puget Sound, the site of our nuclear submarine fleet. Jack went nearly blind over the incident, but when he complained to the Clinton administration to do something about it, the Navy told him never to use the "L-word" (for "laser"), attempted to remove his security clearance and then threatened him with a dishonorable discharge. I intervened to protect Jack, sued the Russians, and our client later retired without further incident. However, throughout it all, the Clinton administration refused to admit that the attack was an act of war on American soil – so as not to require it respond in kind to the Russians, whom Clinton was also attempting to appease for his foreign-policy reasons.

So here is the question: Has President Obama and his government minions also covered up a plausible act of terrorism by Iran on American soil, so as to make it easier for him to continue his failed policy of appeasement toward the regime? I hope that my Persian friends, who so love the shah and his family, and all Americans, will join with me in trying to uncover the "truth," since more than just the death of Alireza is at issue; but what we have together sadly learned over the years is the politicized lack of integrity of the establishment.

Larry Klayman is best known as the founder and former Chairman of Judicial Watch, a public interest and non-profit law firm, which attained notoriety through the initiation of 18 civil lawsuits against the Clinton Administration, and subsequently, an unsuccessful lawsuit against Vice-President Dick Cheney in order to obtain information about the White House's energy task force.[1][2][3]

In September 2003, Klayman left the organization to run for the United States Senate from Florida. He lost in the Republican primary. In 2006 Klayman sued Judicial Watch and its president Tom Fitton charging financial and other mismanagement issues which damaged Judicial Watch, the donors and Klayman.[4] The lawsuit is ongoing.

After his run for the U.S. Senate, Klayman formed the organization Freedom Watch to "protect civil liberties [and] rights of all persons, whatever their ethnicity, race, religion, sex or otherwise." [5]

On the NBC series "West Wing," John Diehl played a character patterned after Klayman called "Harry Klaypool." [6]

During the Ronald Reagan administration, Klayman was a prosecutor in the Justice Department and was on the trial team that succeeded in breaking up the telephone monopoly of AT&T.

Klayman has authored the books Fatal Neglect and Whores: Why and How I Came to Fight the Establishment, and writes a weekly column for the conservative news website WorldNetDaily.

It is with great sadness that we share the the passing of Princess Azadeh (Dodi) Shafigh Pahlavi, daughter of H.I.H. Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, the late-Shah of Iran's twin sister, in a New York hospice, where she was being cared for her cancer.

I remember Dodi as the adventurous kid sister, full of humor and strong principles of a best friend, Prince Shahriar (Poudzi) Shafigh (Chafigh), who was assassinated in France by the Islamic regime to remove the most capable military officer likely to lead a military action against the regime.

Also remember her as an important activist for royalist, anti-Mullah efforts, including in London, where she crossed the English Channel to attend demonstrations against the Mullahs.

I remember her seated happily, at a vantage point to watch a royalist march, on top of the cabin of a large truck which had been rented to bring in the flags and banners for the 12,000 or so participants - which back in 1979 was a huge surge from the 27 people at the the first protest outside the occupied Iranian consulate. Of this number 25 were various organizers!

May she rest in eternal peace, as we feel the deep loss in our heavy hearts.

درگذشت ناگهانی شیر بانوی ایران والاگهر آزاده شفیق را به خاندان پهلوی بخصوص به شاهدخت اشرف پهلوی تسلیت عرض مینمائیم ما را هم در این سوگ شریک بدانید

ALSO IN MEMORIAM

Shahryar Shafiq was an Imperial Iranian Navy Captain, and the only member of the Pahlavi Dynasty who chose a military career. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979, he was the only member of Dynasty to stay inside Iran and keep fighting against the Islamic revolutionaries, up to the point when he had to flee in a small boat from the Persian Gulf to Kuwait, under heavy fire.

In 1967, he married Maryam Eghbal, daughter of Manouchehr Eghbal, who was earlier married to one of his uncles, a half-brother of the Shah. They had two sons: HH Prince Nader Shafiq (born 15 March 1968) and HH Prince Dara Shafiq (born 1970).

After exile, he joined his family in Paris, France and began organizing a resistance movement inside Iran. He was assassinated in Paris on December 7, 1979, being shot twice in the head on the Rue Pergolese by a motorcyclist, the Prince reportedly drawn to the location by a former royal bodyguard, whom he trusted and who sold him out to the Mullahs.
