PRESS RLEASE - June 15, 2009

Dear IALA Members and Friends:

In light of most recent news and reports from Iran related to the demonstrations and protests of the Iranian people in Iran in opposition to the legitimacy of the presidential election results and the documented and broadcasted continued and ongoing Human Rights violations of the unprecedented number of Iranian protestors, the Iranian American Lawyers Association joins other organizations and associations calling on and demanding from the United Nations and other Human Rights organizations to appoint an Independent Commission to immediately look into the ongoing Human Rights violations of the peaceful protestors in Iran, to demand an immediate stop of all Human Rights violations of the demonstrators and to investigate and address the voting irregularities in order to respect the vote of the Iranian people.

A great number of world leaders have voiced their concerns about these issues and we strongly urge other legal and lawyers organizations and associations in other cities and countries to join in this effort to demand an Independent Commission by contacting the United Nations, Human Rights Watch and their respective representatives in the U.S. House of Representative and the United States Senate.

Please do not look at the gruesome photo if you are very sensitive.

A picture of a pregnant woman and her baby shot by the REVOLUTIONARY GUARDS in IRAN during the recent struggles

Dear every one,

Please pass on this picture to every one that you know, particularly the international community members and let every one judge for themselves what these heartless bunch of barbarians in power, in Iran are capable of.

They have no respect or care for human lives. They have only one mission and that is to spread their evil, so called religious beliefs to take over the world. They have succeeded until now but WE MUST STOP THEM before it's truly too late.

Hats off to all those courageous people in Iran who simply say enough is enough and are demanding their rights so heroically.

To: Prosecutors of the International Court of Justice

Dear Madams/Sirs, Prosecutors of the International Court of Justice,

Based on the constitution of the Islamic regime ruling Iran, Ali Khamenei, the leader designated as The Absolute Theocratic Guardianship, has unlimited authority, his commands must be unconditionally enforced and he cannot be challenged or opposed in any way. As such, Ali Khamenei acts in nothing more than in his own self-interest, in dereliction of his duty to safeguarding the lives, property and dignity of the people of Iran and maniacally runs rough shod over our nation; and with the aid of his oppressive henchmen, they add to the multitudes of the tortured and murdered of this land. This is a dictator whose inept and brutal policies has stiffled any expression of dissent and has squarely put our country in the path of destruction.

This suffocation and continued injustice has drowned out the voices of protesting groups such as the legions of workers, teachers, students, writers, journalists, bloggers, etc. Each day the number of the executed and tortured, in the prisons increases, all simply as a result of differences of opinion or opposition to the regime’s course of action.

As a result, in view of the recent warrant issued by your court, in the case of Omar al-Bashir, the criminal leader of The Sudan, we the below signatories, call upon you to also investigate crimes committed by Ali Khamenei, and to also issue a warrant for his arrest.

Sincerely,

On the eve of Friday’s election in Iran, President Barack Obama told reporters: “We are excited to see what appears to be a robust debate taking place in Iran. Whoever ends up winning the election in Iran, the fact there has been a robust debate hopefully will advance our ability to engage them in new ways.” But almost immediately after the polls closed, election authorities miraculously claimed to have counted millions of paper ballots and named the incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner.

Iran’s Supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, then went on state television Saturday to declare the result a “divine assessment.” Responding to reports that Iranian security forces were keeping main rival Mir Hossain Mousavi in his home, Mr. Ahmadinejad dryly responded: “He ran a red light, and he got a traffic ticket.”

The only real surprise from the weekend’s results was how blatant Iranian authorities acted to preserve the current administration. It was naive to ever pretend that Iran, a theocratic dictatorship, was ever a true democracy. In reality the ayatollahs hand-picked the four contending candidates from a pool of 475 who initially sought to run for the presidency. The senior clerics on the Guardian Council, which vets the candidates, severely narrowed the choices to less than 1 percent of the original field of challengers. The four who were permitted to run for the presidency share a deep commitment to the extremist Islamist ideology that sparked Iran’s 1979 revolution.

The election results demonstrate again that it is the decisions of Iran’s Supreme Leader, not Iranian voters, which count in determining Tehran’s foreign policy … a foreign policy bent on acquiring nuclear weapons. Instead of blindly engaging the Iranian regime, the Obama administration must drive home the point that an Iranian nuclear weapon is unacceptable. Obama should:
• Denounce the elections and indicate U.S. support for the demonstrators.
• Call on other nations to support demonstrators and lead an international coalition to impose the strongest possible targeted economic sanctions against Iran.
• Strengthen U.S. security in the region and at home by rescinding his budget cuts and fully funding missile defense.
President Obama has shown little interest in continuing President George Bush’s push for democracy in the Middle East. Now we will find out if President Obama will side with demonstrators who are putting their lives on the line for real change in the region, or if he will continue to denigrate the democracy agenda.

Young Iranians pay for Democracy with their lives

The civilized world is shocked by hearing the news that dozens of Iranian youth are being murdered by their own government during peaceful demonstrations in the streets of Tehran.
While most of the foreign journalists were ordered out of the country in preparation of the ongoing ‘coup de farce!’ of the regime, subsequent to its fraudulent presidential election, this particular crime is still being perpetrated in front of international news cameras. Thus, the regime has no possibility of hiding it.
This particular outrageous violation of demonstrator’s fundamental rights is to be added to the notorious beating, killing and pillage of Tehran and Isfahan Universities’ residence halls which seems to have become a nightly routine for armed juvenile delinquents called ‘Basijis.’ Theses notorious hooligans are paid and protected by the government to attack defenseless students and other civilian protesters.

For a regime that has committed thousands of crimes against its own youth over the past 30 years, this latest transgression against the lives and rights of the Iranian people is considered business as usual. This is the same regime that in 1988 mass murdered thousands of political prisoners within the walls of Evin and other state prisons without ever having to give account to any national or international tribunal. What makes current incident special is due to focused international attention on the region in general and on Iran in particular.

While the current turmoil is routine for the regime, the international reaction to the events has not been routine. The adverse reactions to the behavior of the ruling clergy has been punctual and severe. The words of admonishment for the government and support for the people has been forthcoming from all important quarters of international community. The Presidents of the United States, the European Union and France, the Secretary General of the United Nations, The Chancellor of Germany, as well as many other leaders and spokesmen of countries and human rights organizations have joined voices in condemning both the killing of peaceful demonstrators as well as the fraudulent elections.

All of this is due to the sacrifices of those who have given their lives and those courageous young Iranians who continue to resist by risking their lives in order to establish democracy and human rights in their tortured homeland

Senate condemns Iran crackdown

WASHINGTON (AP) — Both houses of Congress have voted to condemn Iran's crackdown on anti-government demonstrators.

The resolution — approved by the House and then the Senate — condemns "the ongoing violence" by the government and the Iranian government's suppression of the Internet and cell phones. It also expressed support for Iranian citizens who embrace freedom.

The resolution was initiated by Republicans as a veiled criticism of President Barack Obama, who has been reluctant to speak too strongly about the disputed elections that left hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in charge of the Muslim nation.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

WASHINGTON (AP) _In the strongest message yet from the U.S. government, the House voted 405-1 Friday to condemn Tehran's crackdown on demonstrators and the government's interference with Internet and cell phone communications.

The resolution was initiated by Republicans as a veiled criticism of President Barack Obama, who has been reluctant to criticize Tehran's handling of disputed elections that left hard-liner President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in power.

Rep. Mike Pence, who co-sponsored the resolution, said he disagrees with the administration that it must not meddle in Iran's affairs.

"When Ronald Reagan went before the Brandenburg Gate, he did not say Mr. (Mikhail) Gorbachev, that wall is none of our business," said Pence, R-Ind., of President Reagan's famous exhortation to the Soviet leader to "tear down that wall."

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs denied that Obama has failed to speak out fiercely enough and said the resolution "is very consistent" with the message Obama has been sending this week.

This is good resolution — approved by the House and then the Senate, President Obama must accept his Islamist appeasement policy regarding Iran failed and change the Iran policy ASAP or we should expect more failures ....

Subject: US CONGRESS- , 405 Congreessmen voted for Res 549 on Iran

Dear Supporter of the Iranian People and Freedom Loving people of Iran,

The US House of Representatives today voted 405 to support RES 459 which

(1) expresses its support for all Iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and the protection of the rule of law;

(2) condemns the ongoing violence against demonstrators by the Government of Iran, pro-government militias, and affiliated entities against the people of Iran, which has escalated since the June 12, 2009, process of selecting Iran's next political leader; and

(3) affirms the universality of individual rights and the importance of democratic and fair elections.

This is an important Bill and flies in the face of Obama and those mullah lobbyists who have been trying to put a human face on the 7th century barbarians who rule Iran . I am reminded of Winston Churchil who once said: "American ultimately do the wrong thing, after they have exhausted all the wrong things." Today they did the RIGHT thing after 30 years of appeasing the mullahs, standing by and seeing women raped, stoned, hanged and babies stabbed to death in their mothers' womb. A Similar Senate Bill is to follow soon. I want to thank all the peole who suppoted me in getting this bill passed particlary all Act for America http://www.actforamerica.org/ friends who bombarded the US House of Representatives with phone calls, faxes and emails supporting the Iranian people in their fight for democracy and freedom.

111th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. RES. 549

Expressing support for all Iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and the protection of the rule of law.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

June 19, 2009
Mr. PENCE submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RESOLUTION

Expressing support for all Iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and the protection of the rule of law.

Whereas the United States supports the right of the citizens of Iran to have free and independent elections for the selection of their political leaders;

Whereas article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that `(1) Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives; (2) Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country; (3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures';

Whereas, according to the State Department's Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2008, Iran's `poor human rights record worsened, and it continued to commit numerous serious abuses . . . the government severely limited citizens' right to change their government peacefully through free and fair elections . . . authorities held political prisoners and intensified a crackdown against women's rights reformers, ethnic minority rights activists, student activists, and religious minorities';

Whereas Iran 's system of government violates numerous international norms and principles of democratic governance;

Whereas, on June 12, 2009, Iran engaged in the process of selecting that country's new political leader;

Whereas the ensuing announcement by Iranian authorities of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's `overwhelming victory' has sent Iranians into the streets since June 12, 2009, and has prompted unprecedented criticism of Iran 's ruling leaders;

Whereas in the streets of Tehran and other major cities, riot police, members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Basij militias are cracking down on demonstrators who were protesting the results;

Whereas the government has cut Internet connections and cellphone service and jammed foreign satellite TV and radio broadcasts;

Whereas most foreign journalists in Iran to cover the June 12, 2009, selection process were reportedly expelled after the voting ended;

Whereas news websites were reportedly blocked by Iranian authorities and the Iranian Government has reportedly arrested opposition political figures and journalists;

Whereas the Iranian Government outlawed any protest following two days of unrest, with the Interior Ministry warning that `any disrupter of public security would be dealt with according to the law'; and

Whereas the Government of Iran, pro-government militias, and affiliated entities have attacked demonstrators, causing multiple injuries and fatalities: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) expresses its support for all Iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and the protection of the rule of law;

"At 19:05 June 20th Place: Karekar Ave., at the corner crossing Khosravi St. and Salehi st. A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart.

I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim's chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes. The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gass used among them, towards Salehi St.

The film is shot by my friend who was standing beside me. Please let the world know."
