Iran to Register its Historic Gardens in UNESCO


Iran is about to register its Gardens in UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites.

Tehran, 18 December 2005 (CHN) -- Iran’s Historical Sites Research Center is providing several files for the inscription of Iranian Gardens, which are considered as valuable historical heritage of the country, in UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites. Among the main features of these gardens are beautifully designed buildings constructed inside them.

“Following the formal establishment of the Iranian Gardens Association, the experts are trying to revise the files of Iranian gardens and to inscribe these Iranian architectural masterpieces in the list of World Heritage Sites,” said Adel Farhangi, the advisor of the Research Center of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Iran.

Iran is currently on the process of making identification cards for some of its historical gardens such as Fin Garden in Kashan city, Shazdeh Garden in Mahan, Alam Garden in Birjand, Fath Abad Garden in Kerman, and Dowlat Abad Garden in Yazd.

Farhangi strongly believes that Iranian gardens are worthy to be registered in UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites.

During the “Iranian Gardens Seminar” which was held in Iran last year, it was decided that Iran must start working on a comprehensive program for the registration of its gardens in the list of the World Heritage Sites. According to the experts, providing a comprehensive file for each of these historical gardens requires some time.
