Boycott Iran's Sham Election, Urges Son of Ex-Shah
http://www.townhall.com/news/politics/200506/FOR20050603c.shtml#

Paris (CNSNews.com) - Two weeks ahead of Iran's presidential elections, the exiled son of the deposed Shah is urging a boycott of the poll, saying Iranians should send a clear message to the world that the regime has no political legitimacy and is ready for a change.

Addressing a press conference in Paris Thursday, Reza Pahlavi said most Iranian opposition groups have declared their intent to boycott the June 17 election.

He claimed further that at least 65 percent of voters were planning not to participate because there were no real candidates, and in Iran's hard-line theocracy, the unelected Council of Guardians can overrule any elected officials.

Pahlavi, who has lived in the U.S. since his father was overthrown in the 1979 Islamic revolution, said Iran was the only country in the world "whose written constitution specifically denies that sovereignty belongs to its citizens."

"Instead it awards it to representatives of God on Earth, who can do with their people and on behalf of their people whatever they please -- oppression at home and terrorism abroad."

He said the election boycott would be a "symbolic gesture" to show that Iranians are aware the regime has no legitimacy. Beyond that gesture, opposition groups would seek a referendum for a constitution based on international human rights conventions.

In the run up to the election, the 12-member Council of Guardians barred nearly 1,000 prospective candidates -- most of them reformists -- leaving a field of just six. Last week, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini ordered the council, whose members he appoints, to reverse its decision in two cases, bringing the total number of contenders to eight.

Polls indicate that none of them pose a major threat to the frontrunner, former president Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Rafsanjani is sometimes referred to as "moderate" or "pragmatic," but Pahlavi had a different assessment, calling him the "most hated man in Iran and the most corrupt."

Elections were being held to fool the West into thinking there was a democratic process in Iran, he charged. He urged the three European nations negotiating with Iran - France, Germany and Britain - in particular to keep in mind the nature of the regime.

"Iranians need just one thing - international moral support for liberty in Iran and for human rights. At the same time, Western governments, particularly European countries who are right now negotiating with this regime shouldn't forget to insist on the themes of human rights and political liberties."

"This would be the best way for Iran not to undergo what happened in Iraq," he said.

The European Union trio are engaged in negotiations with Iran, aimed at suspending its uranium-enrichment program in exchange for trade incentives.

Iran says it is using the enrichment program for energy but the U.S. suspects that it is a cover for developing nuclear weapons. For now, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is backing the European approach although she has warned that the U.S. would not tolerate a weapons program.

While Pahlavi wants the international community to put diplomatic pressure on Tehran over the nuclear issue and human rights, he does not support direct foreign intervention.

Any military intervention, such as a raid by the U.S. or Israel aimed at destroying nuclear facilities, would only galvanize the Iranian people to protect their nation.

"No foreign country has the right to dictate or formulate or advocate regime change in Iran," he said. "It is none of their business -- it is our business as Iranians.

"All we want is support for democratic ideals and the principles of human rights from the free nations of this world," said Pahlavi, urging Western governments: "Don't cut a deal with our oppressor."

If you listened to his majesty Shahanshah Reza Shah II:s press conferance in Paris, a foreign reporter asked his imperial majesty Reza Pahlavi king of the kings about his opinion on Mojahedin. Shahanshah answered that any group not following democratic principles canno´t be count as part of the opposion and added that Mojahedin has a very dark history. Shahanshah said that Mojahedin helped Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war and said he don´t believe the Iranian people has forgot this nor will forgive them.

Long live his imperial majesty Shahanshah Reza Shah II

You can listen to the press conferance broadcasted over several satellites to Iran on http://www.rezapahlavi.org/audiovideo/rp-eu-us60205.html

The reporters were French, English, American and Iranian, Zia Atabay, a great patriot and the head of NITV had travelled all the way to Paris to atend his majesty´s press conferance. May god bless Zia Atabay.

Furthermore Reza Shah II this time said that he believes a parlamentary monarchy is the best system for Iran and made comparisions with Spain. He said the most developed countries in Europe are the parlamentary monarchies and said a monarchy is not about going back in time but a modern system of government in line with iranian history, culture and pride.

Reza Pahlavi's Press Conference in Paris

Translation of Reza Pahlavi's speech (Audio)

Two weeks from now the Islamic Republic of Iran holds its 9th presidential elections. Across the political spectrum, virtually every group, party and persuasion has declared their intent to boycott, not wanting to take part in the elections, realizing that in a theocracy elections are meaningless.

True, there are many countries that cheat in elections, disrespect their own laws and systematically violate rights of their citizens. But there is only one in the entire world whose written constitution, specifically denies that sovereignty belongs to its citizens, instead it awards it to representatives of “God on Earth” who can do with their people and on behalf of their people what ever they please – oppression at home and terrorism abroad. That is why today in Iran, inspite of the aspiration it 50 million youth, the clerical leadership talks about the actual use of a nuclear weapon against another country while its economy nose-dives and social indicators enter the zone of utter desperation.

But, as a Persian proverb says, “There is light at the end of the dark nigh.” (Payane shabe siyah sepideh ast.)

Since the massive disqualification of “reformist” candidates from the 7th Islamic Majles, some 15 months ago, there has been a gathering of political forces, from republicans to constitutional monarchists, from the “left” to the “right” of the Iranian political spectrum to agree on the process whereby Iran can transition from Theocracy to Democracy, from a threat to international peace and security to a contributing partner of free nations.

We will succeed because it is the will of the Iranian people.

However, our request from you, the people of the free world is not to ignore our cry for freedom as you sit down at the negotiating table with our brutal oppressors. We are anxious to see whether, true to your ideals, you emphasize human rights and democracy in Iran or you are content to down grade those ideals as you cut deals on arms and trade.

We will watch, learn and remember.

Short answer, if you waited 27 years for freedom, you can wait another 48 or 72 hours for a *better* chance of freedom.

Hmm, lets see 50 million unorganized, mostly unarmed people, against thousands of well armed militia, RG's, tanks, artillery, and aircraft. Without organization and coordination, there will just be a repeat of the same masscres of the first wave of demonstrators that has been seen over and over again over the past ten or 15 years.

For that reason, I don't think spontaneity will work very well. If millions of people were 'straining at the leash' so to speak, to go after the regime at the first sign of unrest, there have been many such signs over the past several years, and no general uprising developed. Also, the overwhelming hope of the Liberation movement, as I understand it, is for a Georgia/Ukraine/Lebanon 'velvet' revolution, or at least as velvet as die-hard regime officials will let it be. Unorganized small scale actions, including shootings and bombings, set the stage for a guerilla or civil war, not a velvet revolution, and may allow the regime to claim justification for a much more stringent clamp-down.

Gigantic, peaceful demonstrations around the time of the election are the best means to achieve liberation according to the leadership of the democratic movements. Lets stick to the plan and pray for freedom, and give the plan a chance to work. If not, the guerilla war/civil war option will always remain as long as the mullahs do.

"A Day of Defiance! A Future of Freedom!"

I used to think RP was the best chance that Iran had ... after reading the most recent Time magazine piece about the sorry state of things with the political apathy of the party hearty set in Iran, and the wimp ass way in which the west is preparing to embrace Iranian nukes and kiss Rafsanjani's ass, I have come to the realization that RP isn't just the best chance that Iran has, but the only one!

And that is my dozari ...

RP must maintain a high level of activity at this point and not let up until the Mullah$ are out!

Not a decision but realization, and I arrived at through observation, critical and anayltical thinking, and reasoning.

"Other Iranians want Reza Pahlavi, the son of the shah deposed in 1979, to return as a constitutional monarch"

Iran's Ruling Clerics May Hate America, But Iran's Restive Population Disagrees

June 07, 2005

Iran's reigning mullahs and the reformists who would mend the regime's theocratic ways finally have something in common: Iranians don't like either of them. That will likely mean thick voter apathy when the country elects a new president on June 17.

For most of the country, disillusionment with the government is escalating. Frustrated by repressive Islamic laws, Iranians elected current president Mohammed Khatami in 1997, hoping he and his reformers would create more democratic rule. But power still resides with unelected clerics. The reformists have accomplished little.

The result might surprise many Americans. Seventy percent of today's Iranians are below the age of 30 and have scant memory of the anger that spawned a U.S.-hating Islamic theocracy in 1979. These Iranians are not simply against their own regime; they are probably the only broadly pro-American population in the Middle East.

Vigorous national discussion—and windows to the outside world—have helped engineer the change. Some 75,000 Iranian blogs have sprouted on the internet, making Farsi the fourth most popular blog language in the world. While authorities have imprisoned political bloggers and shut down reformist newspapers, they have not been able to block all outside news and entertainment from satellite TV and the internet.

One prominent Iranian blogger from Tehran told WORLD that pro-American sentiment has grown partly out of dislike for the regime. The 27-year-old writes an English-language blog under the pseudonym "Mr. Behi."

"In my generation I rarely—better say not at all—see such big opposition to the U.S.," Mr. Behi said. "If you look at the reformist parties today, you will see many who were among former anti-U.S. groups, but now they are trying to make better ties. The Islamic republic loves having enemies! If you listen to speeches made by the supreme leader, you will hear 'Enemy' two times in each sentence! They always justify their shortcomings as a result of '(Enemy) action' and hit the opposition with the tag of 'Spy.' That is one reason why people do not consider the West as the enemy."

Iran's Guardian Council, a body made up of six Islamic clerics and six lay jurists, vets all election candidates and legislation. In May the council approved only six of over 1,000 presidential candidates. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, worried over low voter turnout, then pressured the council to approve two more candidates—the only reformists in the pool.

Meanwhile, some Iranians support a referendum to change the constitution so that the hardline unelected half of government won't have final say on policies. Other Iranians want Reza Pahlavi, the son of the shah deposed in 1979, to return as a constitutional monarch, and still others want a republic.

Mr. Behi said he favored a democratic federal government, but offered a caveat: "Note, however, that many people here may disagree with my ideas. Iran has 70 million politicians." Whatever the disagreements, the question for Iran now is not if, but when and how the ruling mullahs will go.

'This prison is like my home'

Barely a month ago the prospects for Hamid Pourmand were grim. The Iranian Assemblies of God lay pastor was arrested last September along with 85 other Christians, but he was the only one left in prison nine months later. A former army colonel, Mr. Pourmand faced bogus charges related to failing to inform the army of his conversion to Christianity 25 years ago.

Charged with apostasy, he faced the death penalty. His plight attracted international attention. But on May 28 came a stunning acquittal. "I don't know who you are, but apparently the rest of the world does," the judge reportedly told Mr. Pourmand. "You must be an important person, because many people from the government have called me, saying to cancel your case."

Mr. Pourmand still has to serve out a separate three-year sentence relating to his conversion. According to Compass News, however, he was in good spirits: "Don't worry about me," he said, waving to his family. "This prison is like my home now, you know!"

He didn't ask for throne in a silver platter....In fact I don't know why people even bring this up....especially after he has said a thousands of times: it is up to the people and after a fair referandum (after the ragheads are gone) to decide what form of government they want.
