A report from the celebration of the Festival of Fire from cities around Iran

SOURCE : http://www.iranpressnews.com/english/source/003897.html
Iran Press News: According to received reports from various cities in Iran, today which marks the first celebration of the Iranian New Year's Festival of Fire was met with celebrations as well as huge protests and demonstrations against the Islamic regime of Iran. The protestors chanted: "We need no Sheikh or Mullah, we curse YOU - RUHOLLAH!"

A report from Tehran: Young celebrants today set scarecrows in the likeness of various Mullahs, such as Khamenei, Rafsanjani, Khatami, Sharoudi, Jannati, etc. on fire in the streets. They cried out slogans such as: "Referendum, referendum, this is the people's dictum."

In various parts of the capitol, celebrations and parties rage on. As a part of this celebration which is held on the very last Tuesday night of the year, dry bundles of bramble and shrubbery are set on fire and people jump over them. This is in order to purge their spirits of all the sins and tribulations of the passing year, in order to start the new year, with a pure heart. This is an ancient Persian (Zoroastrian) tradition, one that the Mullahs have done their best to eradicate since their takeover in 1979.

An eyewitness reported that despite severe crackdowns by the Revolutionary Guards and storm troopers, people bravely came out of their homes to celebrate. The sound of bursting firecrackers (which is a part of the celebrations), fireworks, toy rockets, confetti and various other celebratory trajectiles can be heard all over Tehran and smoke has filled the streets.

In one of the grassy knolls, in a suburban area of Tehran, large bonfires were lit and people danced around it and continued chanting the various slogans in defiance of the Mullahs and their henchmen. It is reported that the local Mullahs in various areas of several areas have locked themselves in their mosques fearing the crowds who continually and collectively shout out their slogans.

In several other parts of Tehran, revolutionary guards who have blocked off roads in order to stop cars carrying passengers of various groups from joining others. However people have begun parking their cars and have joined their fellow celebrants on foot. The guards however have become frightened by the force of the people. In this specific area several non-Iranian journalists were also present with their film crews, reporting.

In another area of the city people took to setting the French flag on fire while chanting: "Europe is finished and so are their Mullahs." OR "Bush, Bush, where is Bush?" (In Persian this rhymes: Bush, Bush, kush, kush!).

Like last year's celebration, the brave women who also participating in the celebrations removed their headscarves, stomping and dancing.

In the town of Karaj, near Tehran, people chanted: "Death to Khamenei" as the brutal revolutionary forces took chains and batons to people, severly beating and injuring many.

In the Southern city of Ahvaaz, on the Iran/Iraq border and the surrounding townships celebrants also came out in droves, confronting the regime's thugs. In the Shi'ite holy city of Mash'had, the city closest to the border of Afghanistan, where anti-regime and anti-Mullah fervour has always been most impressive, large groups of celebrants were arrested and detained.

Dear Cyrus,

I urge all my compatriots and all freedom loving people involved in the Iranian struggle for freedom and democracy to write to President Bush.

Here is the letter i have sent to the President and Vice President of the United States:

*********************************************************

Dear President Bush,

In your recent State of the Union address you proclaimed that:

" Today, Iran remains the world’s primary state sponsor of terror – pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve. We are working with European allies to make clear to the Iranian regime that it must give up its uranium enrichment program and any plutonium re-processing, and end its support for terror. And to the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you."

These were very encouraging words Mr President. Iranians are now looking for your administration to take action and deliver upon that last sentence which you stated.

Mr President, tonight was the occassion of an ancient Persian celebration called "Chaharshanbe Soori" or referred to as the "Fire Feast" in english. Millions of Iranians took to the streets of Iran despite warnings by the terrorist clerical islamic regime that they should stay in their homes and that this festival is pagan!
For 26 horrific years my compatriots have had to live under this anti-Iranian theocracy. Tonight millions once again took to the streets and took advantage of this opportune day to demonstrate against the islamic theocracy. Hundreds of Iranians have been arrested for having celebrated their cultural heritage which this regime so terribly despises and does its best to hide or eliminate!
The Iranian people are fed up with this terrorist regime that has occupied their nation for such a long time and caused so much pain, misery, and death upon my countrymen.

Mr President, you are aware that Iranians are the most pro-American people in the Middle East, along with Israel, and they support you and your administration in the war against terrorism. The Iranian people await for you to now begin taking concrete steps in assisting them achieve the ultimate goal of ridding themselves, and the rest of the free world for that matter, of this great threat to humanity - the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian people expect strong statements from yourself in support of the Iranian peoples' uprising against the terrorist mullas. Iranians expect statements demanding release of all political prisoners currently held by the mullas, end of arbitrary arrests and torture, that the Islamic Republic is expelled with immediate force from the United Nations, freezing of the Islamic Republic's assests abroad, and for the U.S. Administration to take positive steps in helping the Iranian opposition. It's high time that the U.S. Adminstration engages itself with the Iranian opposition, and that it announces its full support for regime change and full support of the Iranian people in this regard.

Sir, Iranians all over the world, especially in Iran, await action on part of your Administration in taking these concrete steps.

A free, democratic, and secular Iran is the best ally the United States could have in that region, and is in the best interests of both our people.

Sincerely yours,

************************************************************

This must pertain to the dog pics above: Among the displays in the capital, residents reportedly placed miniature banners on dogs in the streets of Tehran, mocking Iran's lame-duck president, reading, "Khatami, we love you! Iranian Dogs Association".

Seriously, is anyone getting more details from the call in radio and satellite television shows?

question...

one of the biggest problems I face is that no one knows which english language news service to trust since the mainstream (associated press, canada press, reuters) don't carry it, which is a crime.

that AP photo I found was huge. shows it was going.

I'm looking for a contrast. is this paper...

http://www.irannewsdaily.com/v2/home.asp?id=10&Val=DOMESTIC%20NEWS

a state clone of sorts? i notice the celebration is conspicous by its absence. I can use that.

thanks.

btw, to help you know how westerners think, that BBC article about Ali Mottahari is very useful because its a paper we are familiar with. so are my elected government officials.

the demonstration I think I'll have better luck suggesting to news agencies the disparaging reports are worth investigating. see if I can get someone to smell a scoop. sort of thing. no promises. good luck.

PEOPLE CLASHED WITH SECURITY FORCES OVER CHAHAR SHANBEH SOURI

Posted Tuesday, March 15, 2005

TEHRAN, 15 Mar. (IPS) Serious but sporadic clashes opposed Tuesday many young Iranians to security and police forces, leaving several injured, according to eyewitnesses.

In order to islamise the nation, the clerics banned all pre-Islamic traditions, including the Now Rooz, or the New Year.

“Young boys and girls, angry at the decision of the Prosecutor for Tehran and the Islamic Revolution tribunals to ban traditional and popular festivities of “chahar shanbeh souri”, or the last Wednesday of the Iranian Year, fought with Law Enforcement Forces in several areas of Tehran, shouting slogans against the Islamic Republic and some of the regime’s senior leaders like Ayatollah Ali Khameneh’i”, witnesses reported.

A pre-Islamic tradition, the “chahr shanbeh souri”, meaning the Wednesday Festivity is celebrated throughout the nation by all Iranians of all ethnic and religions by preparing bonfires in the streets or in public parks and houses, jumping over the fire chanting “my yellowishness to you, your reddishness to me”, meaning one throw all its misfortunes, miseries, bad health and troubles, represented with the yellow colour, -- that of illness – met in the past year to the fire in exchange of the red colour, that represents health, wealth and good luck etc..

Immediately after the victory of the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the new clerical masters of Iran, in order to islamise the nation banned all pre-Islamic traditions, including the Now Rooz, or the New Year.

The decision met with a national resistance from the population and after years of unabated efforts coupled with uninterrupted propaganda, the clerics softened their attitude and let people celebrate the festivities by closing their eyes.

Witness said eth the exception of some major cities like Shiraz, where the local authorities had arranged and prepared special places for the bonfires, there were clashes between the population with the LEF and other forces urged by the officials to stop people from performing the ceremonies.

In the north eastern city of Tabriz, at least 100 demonstrators were rounded up and arrested by plainclothes men belonging to the Ansar Hezbollah pressure group, sources reported, adding that at least two young girls were badly beaten up.

According to some witnesses from different places in the capital, the population prepared bonfires in the streets and exploded fire crackers, some of them as strong as hand grenade from early as in the afternoon.

The authorities said as a result of the fire crackers and bonfires, at least 2 people were killed and more than 40 others were taken to hospitals, with injuries due to the fire.

Most of the injured had been beaten up by plain clothes security men dispatched by the Judiciary.

But informed sources said most of the injured had been beaten up by plain clothes security men dispatched by the Judiciary.

“The result was clashes with the police resulting in huge traffic jams, allowing people, mostly young ones, to chant anti-regime and anti-clerics slogans, with “Referendum, this is the wish of the people” as the main leitmotiv”, one eyewitness told Iran Press Service. ENDS CHAHR SHANBEH SOURI 15305

Initial Draft Notes For ActivistChat members discussion:

Iran Fire Festival 2005 Big Victory and What is NEXT ?

Charshanbe Souri - Fire Festival 2005 was a heroic event and big victory by the Iranian people who have clearly rejected the Islamist regime and Terror Masters again by millions in Iranian Shock & Owe model while EU3 is negotiating with illegitimate dead regime regarding stupid EU Nuclear Game plan for creating a good face and new life for the rotten dead regime. Is EU3 deaf to hear the rejection of Iranian people or so drunk by cheap oil in last 26 years that they are willing to do anything to keep their Mullahs in power as long as possible. In Charshanbe Souri 2005 the Iranian people have shown the world who is in control of Iranian cities. As Iranian people are burning the Viruses of Iranian society (Mullahs) pictures in fire to clean their homeland the EU3 appeasers are helping the Virus Mullahs and Terror Masters to survive. Is EU3 have any understanding of word SHAME? We should remember EU3 do anything for cheap Oil.

The Iranian oppositions should not expect any serious help from US government anytime in near future while many of 60,000 of lobbyists in Washington are working for EU3 and stolen oil money by Mullahs, many members of US congress have more sympathy towards EU3 than 70% of Iranian people who are pro American, due to system of election in US many members of congress are not truly working for the American National interest and they prefer working for interest groups for their own election contributions therefore it should not be surprising that they prefer to call EU3 as great US allies. In this difficult situation Iranian people deserve full support of Iranian American community, they need our help to free our homeland. Naturally Iranian American community can not match the amount EU3 can spend in Washington. Iranian American best and most reliable friends are great hard working American people with big heart. In this complex world with many interest groups the Iranian people deserve full support of Iranian American community, they need our help to free our homeland for getting out of EU3 Mullahs Mess.

The Iranian people have clearly rejected the Islamist regime by overwhelmingly (90%) boycotting the Mullah's last election(Feb 2004). The BOYCOTT WAS A TRUE REFERENDUM AGAINST THE MULLAHS THAT THEY MUST GIVE UP THE POWER AND So FAR THEY HAVE NOT GIVEN ANY INDICATION THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO STEP DOWN AND GIVE UP POWER IN A PEACEFUL MANNER!
EU Big 3 ignored the legitimate rights of Iranian people and their demands, they negotiated with the Regime and signed contracts with illegitimate Islamist Regime.
The Feb 2004 election/boycott is the latest and best example that the Mullahs are not willing to give up peacefully while the EU Big 3 are supporting them.

So far Iranian people have tested all peaceful means to remove the clerical regime from power. Now we are entering new phase that gives every right to Iranian people inside Iran to use any means to overthrow Clerical regime.

What Iranian Inside Iran may consider to do for Regime change?

The following agenda and strategy draft is for Iranian people inside Iran to consider and it is for open discussion and enhancements by ActivistChat members:
1) Due to the fact that the armed forces are paid by the Iranian people they must serve the people interest therefore they must
support people against ruling class Mullahs without any hesitation.
- Help Free all political prisoners Now.
- The Iranian people have already spoken. The Armed forces must choose between defending and serving the people or serving Mullahs and their foreign Masters.
The Armed Forces should follow Iranian Air Force Top Gun Hero General Ayat Mohagheghi (executed by clerical regime in July 1980) with 250 of our best military personnel & none military, including 50 pilots were arrested & put on show trial & executed by Islamic executioner (Britain played an important role to neutralize the Iranian Air Force uprising) and if they don’t follow General Ayat Mohagheghi soon the Iranian Armed forces under Mullahs command should expect what happen to Iraqi Armed forces. This is up to armed forces and security forces to choose between SHAME or Honor.

2) All Iranian must be prepared to do anything to FREE all Political prisoners by any means and stop torture.
3) Iranian people of all ages must be prepared to fight to free their homeland from Viruses of Iranian society whether the armed forces serve them or serve the enemy of freedom. Iranian people should be prepared for final battle for freeing their homeland and must not forget that their FOREVER leader Cyrus the Great died in battlefield in 530 BC at the age of 60 and not in bed.
4) Oil flow from Iran must be stopped to EU3, Japan and China. General strike in Iran oil industry is absolutely essential to break financial backbone of Regime.

What Iranian Opposition Outside Iran may consider to do for Freeing Our Homeland?

The strategy that the opposition might want to consider is as follows:

- We Iranian outside should put our Maximum effort to use any legal means to take the regime to any International court for crime against humanity and prepare to take over all Iran’s embassies by electing our Ambassadors and forming elected Iranian leadership council for transition.
- Boycotting EU3 , Chinese and Japanese products and Air Line Services as long as they are working with Mullah regime.
- Iranian American must push the agenda of US Air lines not to buy EU3 AirBus Plane.

- Iranian American must stop traveling to Iran as long as the Clerical Regime is in power.
- Iranian American must run for different offices and become more active in election process in US. Specially the Iranian American Medical Doctors with good name who are at the retirement age group should consider to run as member of different political parties in US, this is how you can help your original homeland in short and long run.
- Stop sending gifts and fund to help family members in Iran except for emergency cases. Because adding up the total for gifts amount by 4 million Iranian outside Iran will become large amount which help Mullahs regime more than helping people. This is a very difficult subject for discussion. Is this correct or not?

Iran Hardliners Keep Lid on Ancient Fire Festival

By Christian Oliver
Reuters

http://english.epochtimes.com/news/5-3-16/27108.html

ISFAHAN, Iran - Iranian authorities beat up and tear-gassed exuberant young revelers as they breathed new life into a pre-Islamic fire festival with a night of dancing, flirting and fireworks.
The Islamic Republic, which has an awkward relationship with its ancient Zoroastrian religion, only gave guarded recognition to the "Chaharshanbe Souri" festival last year.

Hundreds of people poured onto the streets in Tehran and other cities for a rare night of partying. Public revelry is unusual in Iran where the authorities consider it to be at odds with the country's strict moral codes.

The IRNA news agency said police used tear gas in more than four places in Tehran. Vigilantes were also seen beating up a group of boys in the central city of Isfahan.

"Anti-riot forces dispersed hundreds of young girls and boys who had gathered on... streets neighboring Mohseni Square," IRNA reported.

"Special police forces on motorbikes attacked the crowd. While escaping, women and children fell and some were injured," it added, in unusually frank language for the state news agency.

Some 50 people were arrested in the capital, according to the semi-official ISNA students' news agency.

But for the most part, Tuesday night's celebrations passed off peacefully in a carnival atmosphere.

Iranian cities crackled and flashed with bangers and fireworks as warring gangs of 10-year-olds terrified pedestrians with exploding pellets.

Flirtatious young men lobbed firecrackers at delighted girls, mimicking their shrieks. Teenagers drew sparkling shapes in the night sky by whirling charcoal burners on chains.

"Hundreds of young people are celebrating and dancing on the streets ... while letting off firecrackers," IRNA reported from Tehran.

Anti-Riot Police Used

Chaharshanbe Souri is thousands of years old, but was pushed underground after the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The purification festival, which is meant to dispel evil spirits, is celebrated on the last Tuesday night of the Persian year.

But Islamists see the ceremonies as a pagan relic.

In Isfahan, a Reuters witness saw men in black leather jackets seize a group of nine boys and young men playing with firecrackers, ram them against a wall and smash their faces and shoulders with batons.

A woman screamed hysterically as one of the religious vigilantes in a motorcycle-helmet dragged a battered teenager into an unmarked car. A regular policeman drove by without stopping.

Most people in Isfahan chose to celebrate the festivities in the city's maze of backstreets, some lighting fires in old tires and deep cooking pans.

Blaring pop music wafted from high-walled gardens.

Leaping over the flames, many chanted an ancient prayer invoking the fire- the Zoroastrians' most sacred element: "Give me your red color, take away my sickly pallor."

But Behrouz, an elderly bystander, thought the firecrackers and flirting missed the point.

Reuters. good snag.

cyrus. with all due respect I think one area of contention you may need to elaborate on is the 90% you use regarding the boycott. over here in the west the numbers I'm dragging up are from the Interior Ministry and naturally don't agree with your claims.

this CBS publication of an Associated Press article is what I'm drawing from...

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/02/15/world/main600416.shtml

so if your intent is to make your circular as palatable as possible to the western mind I suggest you address the contentious claims one way or another.

the fact they acknowledge such a drastic drop in even the official numbers speaks volumes in itself. maybe you can use that.

just a thought.

Disagree with the link, it is reporting from regime sources which they don’t have any credit. The Mullah’s regime is master of lying and we can not believe anything which is coming from regime sources which are holding to power by brutal force. The concept of Conservative and Moderate for ruling class Mullahs in Iran is created by EU3 Media , EU3 government sources and Iranian EU mercenaries that are paid by the regime or EU3. If you want to believe these information in the Media then you must believe that Sadam had a election and claimed 99.9% voted for him. Sometimes Big Media News Agencies are repeating what government sources are telling them because they want to keep their News reporting access.
