STATEMENT BY THE STUDENTS OF FERDOSI UNIVERSITY

In a statement endorsed by some 1500 signatories, students of Ferdosi University in the city of Mash’had ask universities around the world to reject the person of Seyyed Hadi Ebrahimi, currently Ferdosi’s head of “cultural affairs”, as a candidate for PhD for the following reasons:


1. Open violation of student rights in their efforts to voice their opinion in the university’s office of “cultural affairs”.

2. Refusal to allow many students to take part in the 97-98 elections for the state-sponsored Islamic Organization.

3. Presence in the university’s “disciplinary committee”, creating files on the students, and creating an atmosphere of fear on the campus during 1999-2000.

4. Personal confrontations during student gatherings, and against student writers.

5. The banning of more than 10 student papers upon baseless charges in his capacity as the chairman of a committee (2000-2003) monitoring such publications.

6. Creating divisions among the university’s cultural-artistic associations for personal gain.

7. Unilateral confrontation against elections in the Islamic Organization, support for its pro-regime faction, and fraudulence to benefit this same faction in 2002.

8. Abuse of his position in the university to obtain a scholarship to study abroad for a PhD when a number of professors with good credentials are prevented from benefiting from the scholarship.
